The Great Wall at Jiankou is located in the district of Huairou, about 80 kilometres north-east of Beijing.

Unlike some sections, such as Badaling, that have undergone extensive restoration, the wall at Jiankou really looks as one would expect it to look some 500 years ago. You will also be able to compare this section to the more repaired section at Mutianyu.
In Mutianyu there are cable cars available at extra cost.

Next Saturday, July 31st we are going to hike the Great Wall. We will be hiking from Jiankou, known as the “Wild Great Wall,” to the more restored section in Mutianyu. Jiankou Great Wall is remote, quiet, and rarely traversed— you will probably not see any other tourists for the entire morning. It is a rigorous hike, providing stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
