Sichuan Food. The first thing that comes everybody’s mind – it’s spicy! But don’t worry, even if you aren’t a fan of spicy food, you can still go out to some fancy restaurants. After all, there are also international restaurants serving food from other parts of China.

If you do not know how to get started, you might want to check out the recommendations we have put together for you!

Chinese

Laomatou HotPot

Sichuan Hotpot has a long tradition – for a good reason! When you plan to go there, you should either book a table or be prepared to wait for a long time. The food definitely does make up for it though, and you will get the full Chengdu hotpot experience. It’s good to have at least one Chinese speaker with you though, because that makes the ordering much easier!

Chen Mapo Doufu

It definitely depends on your taste, but you should not leave Chengdu without at least trying the traditional Mapo Doufu once. It is very spicy – but unusually so. What better place to try Mapo Doufu than right at the spot where it was invented?
