Life in Beijing

Transport

There's many ways to navigate the great city of Beijing. The old city center is quite suitable for walking or biking, whereas the rest of the city can best be cruised by the relatively cheap taxi's or the quick underground. The public busses are unfortunately very crowded and rather slow.

Shopping

Thanks to the reforms that started in the late 70s and the economic boom of the last 3 decades, China's markets and shopping centres are more bustling than ever before. Nowadays, there's probably not many things you can't buy in Beijing!

Nightlife

No lack of nightlife entertainment in Beijing! There are several bar areas in town, with a great diversity in style, ranging from loud disco's with vibrating dancefloors to romantic lakeside roofterraces.

Sightseeing

One of the great joys of doing an internship or studying Chinese in Beijing, is that you can also get the chance to discover Beijing's unique cultural heritage.

Trips around Beijing

There are some cities and towns near Beijing that are enjoyable just for a weekend or a couple of days. Here are some suggestions where you could go for two or three days.
