Practical Information

Visa Support

All foreigners coming to China need to apply for the correct visa before departure. When doing an internship in China the F visa (also known as Business Visa) is the most appropriate visa to have; however, the L visa (tourist visa) is an acceptable alternative. To apply for the F visa Hutong School will provide you with an Invitation Letter written and stamped by the company that provides you with the internship.
For language students, an L visa is adequate. Since visas can be extended in China, visa validity is not an issue.

Airport Pick-up

Upon your arrival a Hutong School staff member will meet you at the airport with a sign of your name. About 2 weeks before arrival we will send you all the information you need to navigate the airport so that once you step out of the terminal you will spot the Hutong School employee waiting for you.

Registration in China

All foreigners arriving in Beijing or Shanghai have to do a registration at the local police station within 24 hours of arrival. Although this may just seem like a formality, it is important in the case of later visa extension. A Hutong School employee will escort you to the local police station right after you move into your apartment.

Networking Support

At the Hutong School, we encourage students to actively network during their stay in China since getting to know the right people might result in future employment. Therefore we will provide you with:

  • A mobile phone and phone number: in return for a deposit which you will get back once you return the mobile phone at the end of your stay.
  •   Upon request: Business cards which mention your name, mobile phone number and area of expertise.

Ticket Booking

Beijing and Shanghai are both great cities with loads of interesting sightseeing, events and happenings. However, China is of course more than just Beijing and Shanghai. Therefore we are always willing to assist you with ticket-booking or even planning short trips to other Chinese cities.

Medical care

China has many good hospitals several of which are Foreign Expat Hospitals. There are also some Chinese Hospitals offering good service in English. On any trip abroad it is of course important to make sure that you have the correct insurance and that you carry the policy number and the hotline of the insurance company with you (insurance has to be arranged by the students in their respective home country. The Hutong School is never liable for any medical charges not covered by the student’s insurance).

In case of an emergency on weekends or during holidays, make sure to call the Hutong School emergency phone at 150 1087 1748. On weekdays please call the office at 6403 8670.
