Meet the Hutong Team: Nathan De Hert
Every week we will put a member of our incredible Hutong Team into the spotlights! Our team is expanding rapidly to give our students the times of their lives and to keep our three branches in China running like a well-oiled machine. Each of us plays an unmistaken part in that. Some of them you might already know, while others do most of their work behind the scenes. This is your chance to get to know everyone and learn more about their China experiences, why they love Hutong School, and more!
Somebody has to go first and that one is Nathan! He is our Marketing Manager and lives in Shanghai.

Why did you choose China? What attracted you?
In my final year of university I decided I wanted to do an internship abroad. At first I wasn't planning on going to China but one thing led to another and I ended up here. I actually started off as a participant in Hutong School’s internship program!
What attracts me the most is the simple fact that China is different. For me, an internship in let’s say the USA or Europe wouldn’t have been much different from an internship in my home country. The world is globalizing fast, if you truly want an international experience you need to go far!
Why did you decide to stay in China? What keeps you here?
After I had finished my internship in China, it was back off to Belgium. There I decided China was where I wanted to be. It’s been an amazing experience so far. I started out in Beijing and recently moved to Shanghai. Shanghai is a fast-pacing international business oriented metropolis while Beijing is regarded as the political and cultural center of China. I’m still undecided on which city I like best!
What motivates you to work at Hutong School?
My job involves marketing an amazing China experience to young people from all across the globe. What’s not to love?
